Winteringham Haven Bridge to be restored to its former glory
Scunthorpe Telegraph, Wednesday, September 7th 2011
The metal railings at Winteringham Haven Bridge are to be returned to their former glory.
It is thought that the railings have not been touched since the 1960s when they were first put up to replace the original wall.
In June this year, North Lincolnshire Council put up temporary barriers as a safety measure when the guard rails were damaged following an accident.
The revamped railings will be blasted back to the galvanised steel, repaired and painted white.
The work is expected to take two weeks.
Elaine Marper, Burton upon Stather and Winterton ward councillor, said:
“The railings were fast becoming an eyesore and in need of attention. Residents were concerned that they were being neglected. I’m delighted that the railings are now going to get the attention they deserve.”
Ralph Ogg, Burton upon Stather and Winterton ward councillor, said:
“You can only sympathise with local residents. I’m pleased the money has been found to carry out the repairs. It will make a real difference.”
Helen Rowson, Burton upon Stather and Winterton ward councillor, said:
“It would have been a real shame had nothing been done. The bridge is a significant part of Winteringham Haven, set in an attractive area. And it is important to many people. So of course we want to see it restored to its former glory. This is great news.”
